LeapTrack - Maintaining Cartridges |
|
|
| Symptom / Question |
What is the best way to clean and maintain my LeapTrack cartridges for best performance?
|
| Solution |
In normal use, LeapTrack cartridges should not require cleaning, however, in cases where cartridges have been unused for several months, performance can decrease due to oxidation.
Oxidation can form on cartridge fins, requiring several inserts and removals into the LeapPort before the student name appears on-screen. This is especially prevalent when cartridges have been stored over the summer.
To safely clean your cartridges, we recommend placing a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and gently cleaning the gold fins on both sides of the cartridge insert. Let dry before use. This will remove any oxidation or dirt build-up for better cartridge performance. While cleaning, note condition of gold fins on cartridges. If deep scratches in the gold are evident, replacement may be necessary to ensure solid connection with the LeapPort.
As an alternative to cleaning with rubbing alcohol, a soft tipped pencil eraser can be used to gently clean the gold fins.
*TIP - when packing up your classroom for the summer or extended breaks, place all cartridges in a sealed plastic sandwich bag or similar air-tight container.
